Manivannan Biography

Manivannan is an Indian actor and film director. He focuses primarily on films of Tamil language and has performed in nearly 500 films to his credit. He usually plays responsible roles in the films and is in the film industry for nearly three decades.

Manivannan was born on 3 rd May 1954 in Sulur in Coimbatoredistrict. His full name is Manivannan Rajagopal. His fathers name is R. S. Maniam and his mothers name is Maragatham. He has three sisters namely Parimalam, Poongothai and Manimekalai Boopathy. He married Sengamalam and has a daughter named Jyothi and a son named Raghuvannan. His father was a rice merchant and a politician and his mother also had contested in the panchayat elections. Manivannan joined MDMK political party and campaigned for it during 2006 assembly elections.

He completed his P.U.C. in Kovai Government Arts College. During that time he got the friendship of Sathyaraj. While he was at college, he developed an interest for stage plays. As he liked the film Kizhakke Pogum Rail very much, he wrote a very long letter to the producer of the film Bharathiraja which was more than 100 pages. Bharathiraja was very impressed with his enthusiasm and gave him chance to work as an apprentice. In 1979 he joined Bharathiraja at the time when the legendary film Kallukkul Eeram was produced.

He evolved into a story writer and dialogue writer and worked for some films like Nizhalgal, Tick Tick Tick, Kaathal Oviyum,  He worked with Bharathiraja for many films like Puthiya Vaarpugal, Koththa Jeevithaalu, Lovers, Red Rose, until he directed the film Amaithip Padai. This made him noticeable and he got many chances to act in films.

Though Manivannan has directed over 45 films, he was best known as an actor than as a director. His character roles and way of speaking attracts the audience. Some of the films that he has worked include Velayudham, Sadhurangam, Ilaignan, Thillalangadi, Mayandi Kudumbathar, Ellam Avan Seyal, Kuruvi, Thambi, Arasatchi, Engal Anna, Alaudin, Parthiban Kanavu, Vaseegara, Sullan, Budget Padmanabhan, Kandukondein Kandukondein, Asathal, Unnai Kodu Ennai Tharuven, Hello, Periyanna, Poomagal Oorvalam
